Quality and safety

Will optimizing my photos reduce the quality?

No. ImgCrisp saves the same picture in lighter formats. If an image can’t get smaller without a visible change, the original is kept, and you aren’t charged.

How do I undo an optimized or upscaled image?

Find the image in the ImgCrisp report and press Restore original. The backed-up original comes back and WordPress rebuilds its sizes. For an upscaled image, posts that were switched to the upscaled file need a quick edit afterwards.

Will it slow down my site while it works?

No. Compression runs on the ImgCrisp service, not your hosting. If the service is busy, images wait their turn instead of failing.

Does it change my original files?

Yes, when it can make them smaller: the lighter file takes the original’s place, at the same address. Before that, the untouched original is copied into a backup folder on your own site, so you can always go back.

What about images I upload later?

Switch on Optimize new uploads automatically in Settings and each new image is optimized as it is uploaded. It is off until you choose; with it off, Bulk Optimize picks up new images whenever you run it.

Credits and billing

What does a credit buy?

One optimization covers an image with all its sizes and formats: 30 credits. An AI upscale is 210 credits, shown before you confirm. Images that got no smaller cost nothing.

Is there a free trial?

Yes: 50 images over 30 days, with no card needed. It starts when you connect your first site and is shared across your sites. AI upscales are not part of the trial.

Do WebP and AVIF cost extra?

No. One optimization covers an image in every size and every format, for 30 credits.

Can I use one account on several sites?

Yes. Credits are shared across all the sites you connect.

Is anything in the plugin locked until I pay?

No. The plugin is free and complete. Credits pay for the work the ImgCrisp service does on your images.

Compatibility

Does it work with my theme and Yoast SEO?

It works with standard WordPress images in any theme, including images a theme prints at full size. With Yoast, share previews and image sitemaps get the lighter files too.

Which image types does it handle?

JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF, up to 50 MB each. GIFs, SVGs and other types are left as they are, and the report marks them skipped with the reason.

Does it work with page builders?

Images a builder outputs through WordPress’s own image functions get the lighter files like any other. The scanners only read standard post content, so they don’t see layouts a builder stores elsewhere.

Does it work with a CDN or offloaded media?

Only for images stored in your own uploads folder. If a plugin moves your media to cloud storage or rewrites image addresses to a CDN’s domain, ImgCrisp won’t switch those images to WebP or AVIF.

Does it work on multisite?

Not yet. ImgCrisp isn’t built or tested for WordPress multisite networks.

Can I run it alongside another image optimizer?

Run one at a time. Two plugins compressing and rewriting the same images work against each other, so switch off the other plugin’s compression and WebP delivery first.

Your data

What does it send from my site?

The image being optimized, its file name, your quality and format settings, and your API key. Never your posts, your visitors’ data or anything else on your site.

Where are my images processed?

On the ImgCrisp service. For an AI upscale, the service passes that one image to the specialist provider that runs the upscaling model. The privacy page names every company involved.
