Using AI upscale
Go to ImgCrisp, then Upscale, and press Scan. ImgCrisp reads your published posts and pages and their featured images, and finds images that are shown wider than their pixels can fill on a high-resolution screen.
Free fixes first
Often a bigger copy of the image already exists, because WordPress made it when the image was uploaded. Those appear under Free fixes (repoint). Apply switches the post to the bigger copy, and Apply all free fixes does every one. These cost nothing, and each has an Undo.
Images that need an upscale
When no bigger copy exists, the image appears under Needs AI upscale. Tick the ones you want and press Upscale selected, or press Upscale on one row.
Before anything is sent, a dialog shows how many images and what they will cost. Cancel spends nothing. ImgCrisp won’t start an upscale without that confirmation.
The dialog also measures how far each image would be enlarged from its real pixels. Past 3×, results can visibly degrade, so it lists those images, worst first, and offers to upscale only the ones measured as safe.
Images the page doesn’t show
Some themes never display a post’s content, or show a different image than the one in the editor. ImgCrisp checks each page’s public version and leaves images it can’t find there unticked, marked Not found on the live page. You can still tick them.
After you confirm
Each image moves to In progress, then Awaiting result once the upscaler has accepted it, then Upscaled. ImgCrisp backs up the original first, replaces it with the upscaled image in the same format, makes WebP and AVIF versions of every size, and switches every published post that shows the image over to the new file.
Upscaled images are at most 4,096 pixels on their longest side.
Needs review
If an upscale stops without a confirmed result, ImgCrisp can’t always tell whether the upscaler already did the work. Rather than risk paying twice, it never retries those by itself. They wait under Needs review, each with the reason, and Retry checked lets you decide.
Undoing an upscale
Restore it from the report, like any image. Posts that were switched to the upscaled file aren’t switched back; see Restoring an image.
